Blue Circle Sailing and Windsurfing North Kent

Blue Circle Sailing Club was founded in 1956 and enjoys very good sailing and windsurfing conditions on an 140 acre lake at Cliffe in North Kent.
The lake is separated from the Thames estuary only by a sea wall and so experiences good sea breezes especially in the afternoon with the added safety of inland sailing.

Blue Circle is the ideal location for any learner to gain confidence on the water. The club has a full racing calendar including a Topper 6 hour race, 2 day Snipe open meeting, handicap points series, an Autumn Series and a frostbite winter competition.
Main classes are Snipe, Laser, Topper, Mirror and sailboard though a wide variety of other classes are also represented.
The club owns a number of boats including Wayfarer, Topper, Optimist, Bosun, Lightning and a Snipe..
The modern club house is open on Sundays during the season when hot and cold refreshments and food are available, and a number of barbecues are held during the summer usually after major race meetings or at the club Open Day. The club also has mens and ladies changing rooms with showers.
The club does not compromise on safety and a safety boat is on the water during all club racing.

SOUTH EAST VOLUNTEERS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS RECOGNISED AT RYA AGM

HRH the Princess Royal, President of the RYA, presented the annual RYA Community and RYA Awards at the 2009 RYA AGM on Thursday 19 November
49 Community Awards were projected across three categories recognising; Lifetime Commitment, Outstanding Contribution and Youth.
South East awards for Lifetime Commitment included Roy Colver from Maidstone, John and Helen Lawley from Seaford, East Sussex and Ron and Shirley Sinclair from Biggin Hill, Kent
* Roy Colver is a member of Blue Circle Sailing Club, based at a 140 acre lake at Cliffe in North Kent. Michael Kent from the club states that "Roy Colver has been 'the hand on the tiller' at the Blue Circle Sailing Club for the past 23 years. Without his efforts Blue Circle SC would probably not exist now." He has helped drive the club forward from its beginnings in 1956 to the active sports centre it is today
The RYA Awards and Community Awards acknowledge the importance of volunteers within the sailing and boating communities. They recognise the outstanding contributions, time, effort and experience individuals have made to making it possible for others to enjoy boating and sailing, from establishing clubs, committee participation, to boat maintenance and training.
The winners enjoyed a celebratory lunch and were presented with a commemorative medallion and certificate by HRH, The Princess Royal.
Rod Carr Chief Executive of the RYA said: "Every one of the Award winners has exceeded the reasonable expectations of their fellow volunteers, club members and the boating community in general and the amount of work they put in is outstanding. These people are an inspiration to us all and it is my pleasure to recognise and celebrate their sheer hard work and commitment through these awards."
